Yippy Playgrounds is a female- owned and female run company. The owner, Thilligie Pillay, holding a Degree in Physical Education and an Education related Honors Degree, has a solid understanding of the role of playground activity in the development of a child. Her motivation is creating fun playgrounds enabling optimum use, aiding a child’s physical and social development. Not forgetting the lesson that should be learn’t (she is an educator after all) teaching children about recycling ofcourse!!!
OUR MISSION at Yippy is to create fun playing spaces but also, tyre for tyre, to reduce the world’s problematic mountains of used tyres. We make our products using as many recycled materials as possible.
In 2008, the original owners; Jason Needham and Louisa Fisher were inspired to make toys for kids that lasted further than the shop car park. (I’m sure you can identify.)
Turning saw mill timber offcuts into handmade wooden toys and children's outdoor furniture which initially sold at Craft Markets all over the Garden Route, using wherever possible reclaimable and recyclable materials that would otherwise go wasted and unused.
Yippy then began making the Tyre Horse Swing, which has since become our most loved product. The sourcing of tyres for swings made Yippy realise that there was both a need for the wastage of tyres and the negative impact on the environment to lessen and a potential to use them in a playground creating softer surfaces and giving an opportunity to educate the next generation about recycling. Yippy now uses tyres as the primary building material for all of it's products. They are hardwearing and more child friendly than metal playground structures. Tyres make up single components, so it’s much easier to maintain, replace or add parts to your playground. And Tyres are by far the most cost effective material to purchase or install. Yippy has recycled tyre products in thousands of gardens, party venues, schools and pre schools in South Africa. THANKS!!
